After serving our country for 24 years in the United States Coast Guard and retiring with the rank of Captain (O-6), I am honored to be in West Michigan and be part of the Cunningham Dalman team. Throughout my military career, I provided strategic legal counsel on complex regulatory, operational, and personnel matters while leading multidisciplinary legal teams in high-pressure environments. Today, I bring that same commitment to excellence, integrity, and practical problem-solving to serving the firm’s clients. During my Coast Guard career, I served as a senior legal executive advising military and civilian leaders on a broad range of legal issues, including environmental law, administrative law, municipal and regulatory matters, real estate, government contracts, ethics, fiscal law, information law (Freedom of Information Act), military and civilian personnel matters, and emergency response. I was privileged to lead the Coast Guard’s largest legal organization, overseeing 57 attorneys and professional staff across seven geographic locations while providing legal support to more than 80 mission support units nationwide. My experience included directing legal operations during eight major hurricane responses, advising leadership on emergency authorities, regulatory compliance, and operational decision-making in rapidly evolving situations. As Director of Legal Assistance, I also oversaw legal services for more than 450 Coast Guard members and their families affected by natural disasters. I am passionate about helping individuals, businesses, municipalities, and public entities navigate complex legal challenges with practical, thoughtful solutions. Having grown up in West Michigan, it is especially rewarding to return home and continue serving my community through the practice of law.
